James Walker took second place in the GTE-Pro class of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone yesterday with a spirited drive in the JMW Motorsport Ferrari 458. With his team-mate Jonny Cocker he took on the best drivers and cars in the world and was only pipped to the post by the current championship leaders.  It was a fantastic result for a team that was making a guest appearance in the world championship.

“I had a great weekend at Silverstone,” said James. “It was my turn to do the qualifying session and it was my best one yet. The track was wet when we started but drying very quickly so I pitted with eight minutes to go for some cut slick tyres. They worked a treat so it was a great call by Dunlop.  My last lap could have been good enough for pole as I was up on time in the first sector but then a small mistake meant we had to settle for second but we were very happy with that considering the competition.”

James and Jonny really took the fight to the championship-leaders at Silverstone and the yellow and black JMW Ferrari had many close battles during the six-hour race.

“The start of the race was a lot of fun, even though the car wasn’t exactly right in the beginning,” James explained. “Once the tyres came in though it felt great and there was no stopping us.  Jonny did a really good job in the middle of the race and then I took it to the flag.”

“In the closing stages the pressure had eased off a little so I was able to enjoy driving a perfect race car on one of my favorite tracks so that was a real pleasure,” he said. “We enjoyed being in the heart of the battle and for us to turn up and beat many of the regulars is a fantastic feeling.  I hope we can do it again soon!”
