Muscle Milk Pickett Racing picked up its fourth pole position of the season today at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Lucas Luhr, who was aboard the #6 Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03a, registered a lap of one minute 11.019 seconds to score his and the team’s first pole position at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course.
The German led the field by nearly seven tenths of a second over their championship rivals Dyson Racing.
While the #16 Dyson car improved their time near the end of the 15-minute qualifying session, there was never any doubt that Luhr was the fastest man on the track, eclipsing last year’s pole time by nearly a second, on his first lap.
Friday’s pole position was the second in a row for the Muscle Milk team after scoring pole at the previous round in Canada.
Muscle Milk Quotes
Lucas Luhr, #6 Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03a
“It’s always nice to be on pole even if it doesn’t really matter that much in a long distance race. It’s very satisfying to be the quickest car on track and theoretically if no one jumps the start you should be leading going into the first corner!
“That said, I think it is an advantage overall but with sports car racing you never know with the number of caution periods and then with strategy coming into play, you don’t know what is going to happen on the last stint of the race.
“I’m happy with my time and my performance and I think we will have a good race car for tomorrow. It’s great for Muscle Milk Pickett Racing to have picked up our fourth pole position this season. It’s always a good reward for the team.”
