United Autosports today announce exciting plans to campaign two McLaren MP4-12C GT3s in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in 2013, reinforcing their long commitment to the series.

Zak Brown (USA) and Richard Meins (UK) will be part of the driver line up with the Leeds-based team returning to the Championship for a third season. Team Owner and driver Zak Brown is no stranger to the British GT Championship, having contested selected rounds during the 2010/2011 season. Zak has previously competed in the Ferrari Challenge, Spa 24 Hours, Daytona 24 Hours, Blancpain Endurance Series and selected Historic Motor Racing events. Richard Meins is also a regular with United Autosports having raced the Audi R8 GT3 car at Macau and the Spa 24 Hours. Richard also is an avid historic racer.

It’s unfinished business for United Autosports who narrowly missed out on the title in 2011 with the Audi R8 LMS in the hands of Matt Bell (UK) and Mike Guasch (USA).

After an unrepresentative season in the Blancpain Endurance Series, United Autosports have taken the decision to withdraw their entry from the series with immediate effect. After careful analysis of the existing package, the team decided it was in their best interest to focus their energy on an intensive period of testing and development to better understand the intricacies of the cars.

To create a strong platform from which to launch their 2013 campaign, United’s MP4-12Cs will appear in rounds of the British GT Championship later this year.

Álvaro Parente will continue to drive for United Autosports in 2013. As a McLaren GT development driver, Álvaro has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the MP4-12C. He is no stranger to UK racing circuits having previously won the British F3 Championship with Carlin Motorsport in 2005.

To strengthen the team’s 2013 Championship campaign further, United Autosports will add a second Pro driver, the identity of whom will be revealed once negotiations have been completed.

Plans for United Autosports to compete with the MP4-12Cs in the prestigious Macau, Abu Dhabi and Bathurst events remains unchanged.
