The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón (ALMS) today announced a partnership between the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and RaceWatches.com to honor the Series’ 2012 Prototype Challenge (PC) class champions. RaceWatches.com commissioned Louis Chevrolet watches to create a unique, limited edition timepiece, based upon the legendary Frontenac Model 9200, to reward the winners for their season-long success.
“We are very pleased that RaceWatches.com has elected to recognize our Series’ PC champions with superb timepieces that mirror the quality and precision with which our teams approach their craft,” ALMS President and CEO Scott Atherton said. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to being the very best at what we do, and we are grateful to RaceWatches.com for its involvement with this outstanding IMSA category.”
The 18-jewel, Swiss automatic movement watch is built upon a stainless steel case and features a racing motif, which includes a carbon fiber dial with the ALMS logo set amidst a checkerboard design. The watch’s reverse side spotlights a crystal viewing port to the fine Swiss movement. The watch’s band, fashioned upon a tire tread design, is made of a high-tech, hypoallergenic soft plastic.
The watches, valued at $3,000 each, will be presented to the 2012 PC class driver champions and team owner at the Series’ year-end banquet.
“We’re really excited to be involved with IMSA and ALMS,” RaceWatches.com Director of Marketing Tony Castaneira said. “The series is a perfect match for our watches. The PC class, with its Chevrolet LS3 engine, is the obvious choice to partner with precision instruments like Louis Chevrolet watches.”
The name of Louis Chevrolet is usually associated with the American auto manufacturer bearing his name, but the automotive pioneer’s real passion was racing; his name and his cars were leaderboard fixtures during the early days of racing. The Frontenac timepiece limited series is designed and manufactured in Louis Chevrolet’s own workshops, blending the spirit and craftsmanship of high-end Swiss watch making.
