After yesterday’s super pole position, fastest lap and podium in race-1 the aabar Abu Dhabi Villorba racing with Ferrari Team were stars in race-2 of the fourth round of the International GT Open, held at Brands Hatch. With a furious comeback the race drivers Andrea Montermini and Juan Manuel Lopez secured an important fourth position after starting from eighth place on the grid behind the wheel of the powerful Ferrari 458 of Super GT class.
The comeback of the aabar Abu Dhabi Villorba was the highlight of the race and was broadcasted live on tv. Lopez started the race in dry weather conditions and at lap 14 the young Argentine was seventh when he stopped the super car for the mandatory pit stop for the driver change. The team led by Raimondo Amadio had to pay a handicap of ten seconds for the excellent results of the last few races and when Montermini regained the track in the mid-field he started to push limit for many laps and his spectacular skills of overtakings attracted the attention of the cameras until the finish line. The former F.1 driver came in fourth, and thanks to this great recovery the Italian squad got valuable points for both the overall and the Super GT standings. A very challenging round indeed, which represents the half-season mark.
“We gave our best - said Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal – and today we could not get more. The strategy was perfect and once again our 458 has shown a great potential. Brands Hatch does not allow much overtaking and we could not take too many unnecessary risks. This is the first weekend of the season in which we bring home two useful results and we have gained some points in the standings. We deserved something more in race-1, but now we must look forward. The championship is still long.”
“The unexpected puddle of water yesterday affected our race was a pity - said Andrea Montermini -, in any case this weekend we recovered some points in the standings despite a regulation that does not help our car. However, we must stay focused on the track because we now expect another tough round in France next week.”
