We’re very proud to announce that we’ll be the only team at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours with an all-British driver line-up – so with the Union Flag on the car, we’ll be hoping the 70,000 British fans who make the annual pilgrimage to the famous Circuit La Sarthe will get behind us and be our fourth driver in the Honda Performance Development ARX-03a.
Our Silverstone headquarters is a hive of activity, as we prepare for the biggest race of the year. The big race is on 16-17 June, but we have to head for the cross-Channel ferry three weeks before, as we’re attending the official Le Mans test session on 3 June.
After two strong FIA World Endurance Championship race performances at Sebring and Spa and an excellent test session at the MotorLand Aragón Circuit, we head to France confident that our Le Mans-spec package will work well around the 8.468 miles (13.629km) track. The turbo-diesels will be in a class of their own, but our aim is to challenge for the top petrol honour and Privateer awards.
While our 3.4-litre normally aspirated V8 engined P1 prototype is prepared, our drivers have been training hard and are physically and mentally in great shape. Team trainer Stewart Wild has been working with them for a number of years now, and the coconut water and fitness regime is paying dividends.
The drivers know the Le Mans track well. Despite only racing for nine years, this will be Nick Leventis’ fifth attempt at the world’s most gruelling race. He’s already won the LMP2 trophy and finished 5th overall – highlighting the excellent Strakka Racing driver attempt at the 24 Hours. Our qualifying development programme. maestro will, most likely, be put in charge of putting the HPD ARX-03a as This will also be Danny Watts’ fifth far up the starting grid as possible, having claimed LMP2 pole in the past.
Jonny Kane is the most experienced Le Mans racer in the squad, and this will be his ninth appearance at the great race. In addition to his speed, he’s regarded as the team’s safe pair of hands and therefore regularly gets the most hazardous parts of the race – the rolling start and triple night time stints.
