The Spanish GT / IBER GT championship heads for the second meeting of the season in Madrid, being first endurance race with Endurance Trophy Iber GT. Another pretty strong entry list with interesting additions joining the field at Jarama. The Spanish GT / IBER GT championship is approaching its second meeting of the season at Circuito del Jarama, one of the most well-known tracks in the Iberian Peninsula and a classic venue in motorsport. Madrid-based track receives every year large crowds and 2012 will not be different with Spanish GT / IBER GT championship and Endurance Trophy Iber GT being joined by Maserati Trofeo MC World Series and Trofeo Jarama Gentleman Drivers, all of them championships closely-fought.
The entry list is, once again, a strong one with every famous GT brand present. GoodSense Racing Team is lining up its two Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+ cars for overall leaders Patrick Cunha / José Ramos, who are joined by Miguel Campos – former rally driver- for endurance events, and Jorge Queiroz / “Pepe”. Results achieved in Portimao put them as leaders but their fellow countryman Manuel Giao and Carlos Vieira are second not far. Giao and Vieira will also have a new teammate, former champion Lourenço Beirao da Veiga, completing an amazing and competitive driver line-up. Second Team NovaDriver ́s car will be driven by César Campaniço and Mikko Eskelinen.
In Madrid, Drivex is one to watch because they are always quick at home. Miguel Ángel de Castro will share the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR with Catalan Alan Sicart, a young and promising driver who showed his speed last year with RCA Racing ́s Ferrari. Porsche representation in Super GT class is completed by Autorlando Sport, with a new Porsche 997 GT3R for Jesús Díez Villarroel, Álvaro Fontes and Gianluca Carboni, and Antonio Nogueira, Portugal ́s driver with similar vehicle. Among Ferrari competitors there two fast 430 GT2: from Portugal Ray Racing Team with Ramos brothers, Miguel and Joao, who with Hugo Godinho are another fast and reliable driver line-up, and PCR Sport with Spanish Josep Mayola and Marc Carol at driving duties.
ACL by Rodrive is back with his Ford GT, driven by Rui Lapa, Matheus Stumpf and David Saraiva, and without any kind of doubts they will try to improve their achievements in Portugal, where different incidents prevented them to be front-runners.
Swiss Team is making his debut and they are fielding a new car in the series: Maserati Granturismo MC3 GT3 for Alessandro Pier Guidi and Gabriele Gardel. Pier Guidi and Gardel are two well-experienced drivers in GT racing, and the Italian driver was a race winner in the Spanish GT championship years ago. On the other hand Sports&You will be in Madrid with two Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 cars, both playing a key role during 2011 campaign.
In GTS, Rafael Unzurrunzaga and his Mosler MT900 GT3 will have another important rival ahead. Bólido Racing is making his comeback with its Dodge Viper GT3 for Jaime Carbó and José Manuel de los Milagros, USA-built car clinched a podium finish at Jerez a couple of years ago.
Finally, in GT Light, Ginetta, BMW and Lotus will fight for honors. Luis Villalba and Francesc Gutiérrez are spearheading the classification but Félix Porteiro, Salvador Tineo and Borja Signes, with Porteiro Motorsport ́s BMW M3, and Joffrey Didier, Ángela Negrao and Francisco Carvalho, with GoodSense Racing Racing ́s Lotus Evora, are threatening close behind.
