The Fight against Cancer is the biennial solidarity campaign of the Flemish League against Cancer. The campaign’s main objective is to create a public awareness of the patient and his/her environment. In addition they are out to generate donations in order to realize projects, such as for children with cancer, palliative care and psychosocial support of cancer patients. The Fight against Cancer is one of the biggest fundraising actions in Flanders.
Amongst others there is an enormous action on two wheels, whereby during the Ascension weekend 350 teams will be covering 1000 km by bicycle to collect donations for the Fight against Cancer. Spread over 4 days the FAC cyclist pack will cycle through Flanders and this for the third time. Each team’s target is to collect 5,000 euro and as such no less than 1.750,000 euro is raised for cancer research! In this way the 1000 km has developed into one of the major events for the Fight against Cancer.
This year one of the entrants is Bert Longin, who will be teaming up with one of the two teams of Flanders Mobility Estafette. Bert Longin is competing with one of the teams and on Thursday 17th May he will be covering the leg Mechelen-Brussels-Mechelen with a stop in the Flemish parliament. He joins the pack with amongst others Karel Van Eetvelt and Johan Museeuw.
The driving force behind this team is Gunter De Pooter, the CEO of Vitaemobility. The latter has competed twice in this event in previous years. “The collaboration with Bert Longin is undoubtedly a link with the motorsport of the future or our Flanders Mobility Estafette. The latter is in fact a rally for electric vehicles, which takes place from 1st through to 5th October”, Gunter De Pooter commented.
