Barwell Motorsport has signed former BMW Scholarship recipient, Ollie Millroy, to drive its Ecurie Ecosse-entered BMW Z4 GT3 in the first round of the Blancpain Endurance Series (BES) at Monza, Italy on April 13-15. Millroy will join Ecurie Ecosse drivers, Andrew Smith and Joe Twyman, in the Pro-Am class of the BES which has an incredible 50+ grid of high-quality GT3 entries this season.
Millroy, 21, will be contesting his first ever GT race at Monza, having previously been successful in karting and single-seater racing in both Formula BMW and Formula Renault. He conducted a familiarization test with the BMW Z4 GT3 at Silverstone last week, and was immediately setting some very impressive times on old rubber.
“This is a great opportunity for me to join Barwell Motorsport and Ecurie Ecosse and to drive the awesome 550bhp BMW Z4 GT3 car,” enthuses Ollie. “It is an incredible race car to drive and handles beautifully; I immediately felt at home and confident during my test at Silverstone and knew instantly that I would be able to drive the car to its limit. I’ve done a lot of laps around Monza and know the circuit well so hopefully I should be on the pace straight away. The high profile Blancpain Championship is going to be very competitive so I feel it’s a great place to start my GT career.”
Barwell’s Chris Needell comments: “Ollie is a very impressive young British talent and we are delighted to be able to give him his first opportunity in top-level GT racing. I am sure that he will do Ecurie Ecosse and Barwell proud at Monza.”
At the moment Ollie’s deal is a one-off for Monza, although both he and the team are very hopeful of him being able to secure the funding in order to complete the season.
