NewBlood by Morand Racing:
A new name, a new season, a new chapter
The team from Switzerland will compete this year under the name of NewBlood by Morand Racing, with Christian Klien from Austria the Swiss driver Gary Hirsch aiming at the title in the 2014 European Le Mans Series.
For team owner Benoit Morand, the “New Blood” also has to do with being unique. In 2013, his team was the only one to enter a Judd-powered Morgan with Dunlop tyres in the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans and the European Le Mans Series (ELMS). This package proved efficient with two third-place and one second-place finishes in the five rounds of the 2013 ELMS. For their Le Mans debut, the team finished fifth in the LM P2 category (11th overall) after a consistent race by Franck Mailleux, Natacha Gachnang and Olivier Lombard.
In 2014, New Blood will be synonymous of new drivers for the team with the presence of Christian Klien and Gary Hirsch.
Christian, after a strong and successful beginning in the team for the two last ELMS races of the 2013 season by reaching the podium with a 2nd place at Le Castellet, confirmed his talent and experience of ex-Formula 1 (51GP) driver, as well as his endurance knowledge with Peugeot and Aston Martin and will be the natural leader of the team.
Gary, brilliant winner of the LMPC drivers’ title in the 2013 ELMS, intends to add other victories to the impressive record of his country in endurance racing, joining legends like Jo Siffert, Herbert Müller and Marcel Fässler.
In 2014, NewBlood by Morand Racing will be aiming at the overall victory and the title in the ELMS, and also applied to compete in the 82th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 14-15, 2014). The list of the invited contenders will be announced on Thursday February 13.
