Last Sunday, May 7, the MRS Porsche, car number 78, driven by Charles Putman (USA), Charles Espenlaub (USA) and Xavier Maassen (NL) crossed the finish line as the winner of the 991 class and in six position overall. A faultless race from the drivers, team and engineers, combined with a perfect race strategy, allowed this remarkable victory with a gap of four laps to the second finishing car in the 991 class.
After the race, the MRS GT Racing Porsche was excluded from the result because of a suspected technical irregularity via the installation of a fitting to add oil to the engine.
The MRS Team has appealed against this decision from the race director and will make claim for the correction of the results by the organizer Creventic.
There are two glaring reasons why this decision was unjustified:
1.) The component installed for adding oil to the engine, which was suspected to be illegal in final scrutineering, is actually clearly in accordance with the technical regulations and has been approved, in writing, by the manufacturer.
2.) The Race Director not only did not apply the rules correctly but then treated this situation with contempt for the international sporting rules of the FIA, whose procedural rules are very specific regarding the process of hearing protests, appeals and, if needed, penalties.
The MRS Team with its drivers will not allow a misguided application of the rulebook and pursuant lack of respect for FIA stewardship standards color their reputation and will continue to pursue this case to the highest levels.
