The Motorsport Safety Foundation announced Feb. 5 that Scot Elkins has joined the organization as chief operating officer to further advance its mission of improving safety standards in motorsport.

Motorsports industry veteran Elkins brings extensive experience in managing operations, leading engineering teams and facilitating business-to-business relationships. He spent the past six years in a variety of senior roles at the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), including chief operating officer and most recently as managing director of technical regulations.

Elkins’ vast industry knowledge, paired with an engineering background, is invaluable to the growth and success of the foundation. He has participated in a number of motorsport-related panels and is an active member of several boards, including the Motorsports Advisory Board at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis and Indiana State University.

As COO for the Motorsport Safety Foundation, Elkins will have direct oversight of the strategic direction of the organization, managing the day-to-day operations and overseeing the execution of initiatives and fundraising activities while developing key partnerships within the motorsport industry.

“Joining the Motorsport Safety Foundation is the next logical step in my career as I have always had a passion for safety,” Elkins said. “This new position will provide me opportunities to initiate new safety programs and lead the industry in redefining safety in ways that were never before possible. I am excited to continue my work in the motorsport industry in this new role.”

Said Henrique Cisneros, Motorsport Safety Foundation founder and president: “I am thrilled that Scot Elkins is joining the Motorsport Safety Foundation as our chief operating officer. We are humbled to have someone of his caliber join our team. As Scot and I have discussed, his acceptance of the position is a true testament to the importance that needs to be placed on safety initiatives in motorsport.”

 About Motorsport Safety Foundation

Motorsport Safety Foundation (MSF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving safety standards in motorsport. It is a community where members can come together and have a voice, a place to share safety concerns and collaborate on research. MSF encourages active participation from all members who share the view that motorsport can and should be safer. The charity was founded in honor of Sean Edwards, a professional race car driver who tragically died while coaching from the passenger seat at an Australian racetrack. Edwards crashed into a reinforced concrete wall that was not properly equipped with the minimum safety barriers to dissipate the impact. Issues like these are what Motorsport Safety Foundation continuously works to change – fixable problems that can prevent another driver, crew marshal or even fan from serious injury or death.
