The Clermont-Ferrand manufacturer is bringing the technologies it has developed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) to its customers – be they professional racers, amateurs or gentlemen drivers. On March 6-7, it will unveil the new MICHELIN GT P2L rain tyre at Le Castellet in the south of France.
Thanks to a new tread pattern – honed in the FIA WEC – and a latest-generation construction (casing), the MICHELIN Pilot Sport GT P2L improves lap times on a drying track surface compared to its predecessor, the P2G, while maintaining its excellent ability to clear water.
This means that drivers will benefit from enhanced safety and control, along with more consistent performance, even in changing conditions.
What’s more, the similarities in design between the MICHELIN Pilot Sport GT L (slick) range and the new MICHELIN Pilot Sport GT P2L limit the number of set-up adjustments required on the car when switching from slicks to rain tyres.
The same applies during qualifying sessions, without adversely affecting either tyre performance or durability.
The new MICHELIN Pilot Sport GT P2L will be sold in nine different sizes from 15 to 19 inches, via Michelin’s approved distribution network. It has been designed to work with everything from touring cars and smaller prototypes right the way up to LMP3 class prototypes, including GTs and Porsche Cup machinery along the way.
To allow drivers to discover and get to grips with this new tyre in the presence of Michelin Motorsport engineers and technicians, the company will be holding a test session at Paul Ricard on March 6-7.
“We are very excited by the idea of injecting a breath of fresh air into the rain tyre sector. Indeed, this new product will enable us to offer our partners a significant step forward in terms of versatility,” says Philippe Mussati, manager of Michelin’s Customer Competition department.
