Maserati Corse has started his racing season recently at Paul-Ricard with the first two rounds of the Maserati Trofeo. We have asked the Italian manufacturer a few questions about the current season and the future plans for racing. Roberto Bozzi, Sales and Marketing Motosport Manager for Maserati, has kindly answered us :
Besides the Maserati Trofeo, will Maserati have some other racing programmes in 2015?
“1. Beside of Trofeo, we are planning some spot race in the GT4 class, once we have confirmed the homologation of the Trofeo car in such class. This is because the GT4 market seems to have a promising growth, thanks to the interest of small teams and gentlemen drivers looking for something different than a monobrand series.”
Swiss Team has entered again their Maserati MC GT3 in the International Open GT. Will the team have some support from Maserati?
“2. The GranTurismo MC GT3 is a program fully supported by Swiss Team only. Maserati doesn’t play any official role in such activity. Of course, we are more than happy if Swiss Team can bring the GranTurismo MC GT3 at a competitive level.”
Has the factory some plans for international racing in the future? If so, what Series could be of some interest for Maserati?
“3. The future plans in racing are under evaluation. Everything is pretty much related to the development of the new GT car. For the time being, the GranTurismo MC Trofeo/GT4 will keep going.”
What are the Maserati feelings about the current competitions? What conditions would be necessary for a comeback of Maserati on the highest level?
“4. Currently, the GT3 competitions have more than one point of interest for a car manufacturer:
- the race cars are somehow developed from a production car, giving the manufacturer the possibility to promote their brand and their technology
- the GT3 is the most popular class worldwide, with a variety of sprint and endurance races: this is a market opportunity for selling cars, spare parts…
- the GT3 is a very fast car, but still suitable for gentlemen drivers, who have the chance to drive beautiful and competitive cars.
However, the return of Maserati to the highest level is also depending on the decision of FIA with regards to the GT regulation.”
