Last weekend Leipert Motorsport from Germany startet for the 11th time in a row at the 24h race in Dubai (UAE) – for the first time with the awesome Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo in class A6 AM.
Already the free practices have shown the good performance of the car with the AM-drivers Mikhail Spiridonov, Shahin Nouri, JC Perrin and Franck Leone-Provost.
Even before the qualifying session, the team and drivers had decided not to go below a lap time of 2:05 (tank volume 120 l per refueling). With a lap time of under 2:05 the tank volume per stop is only 100 liters. Mikhail Spiridonov set a lap time of 2.0585. To get even closer to the 2:05 limit and make up a few starting places, the team sent the # 12 again out – and cracked the appointed time of 2:05 on the last lap with 2:04.
So there it was – and the guys had to be content with more pit stops and a lower tank volume. That ist motorsport.
The race started and the drivers drove constantly good, the Huracán Super Trofeo was running smoothly at every time as a clockwork. Because of many code 60 phases (one phase of 1 complete hour) the car didn’t come as fast forward as the team hoped it would.
Nevertheless, after nearly 17 hours driving time without any problems the car was on 21th place overall, 4th place in the class A6 AM with 4 AM drivers – not SEMI-AM nor PRO-drivers.
Than at 7.19a.m. the shock: The Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo #12 with Mikhail Spiridonov at the wheel was bumped out during an clear overtaking maneuver of a slower BMW #191 with driver Christopher Wishart at the wheel. The Lamborghini crashed into the wall, turned around and crashed again into the wall. Additional due to the crash the car caught on fire. What a disaster. Our driver Mikhail Spiridonov came out of the car – he was getting well.
After recovery of the damaged Lamborghini Huracán Ingo Leipert talked to the race director and the race control. After looking the crash video they confirmed the blame for the accident to the BMW driver. The crash driver does not appear despite being requested by the race director. The race director will penalize the incident and the misbehavior.
Unfortunately, an unhappy end of a 24 hour race which started so well.
Team owner Ingo Leipert: “The beginning of the race event was perfect for the team and the drivers JC Perrin, Mikhail Spiridonov, Shahin Nouri and Franck Leone-Provost. Perrin, Spiridonov and Leone-Provost already knew the car very well, Shahin Nouri had tested the car extensively a short time before.
The four AM-drivers have shown a perfect performance, due to the good preparation of the car by our staff the Huracán Super Trofeo was running without any technical problem – as already known from the 12h and 24h races in 2015. After nearly 18 hours we were on the way in the top 15, even worse was this unnecessary accident caused by the over motivated BMW driver. We have to accept the bad situation and we will look forward the next 12h race at Mugello in March 2016.”
