In agreement with its drivers Dominic Jöst and Florian Scholze, the MRS Team has withdrawn the car number 22 from the ADAC GT Masters races at Lausitzring.

Against other contrary reports and statements, the reasons are not due to technical issues nor due to a disadvantages caused by the BoP.

One part amongst others of the Balance of Performance (BoP) is the Turbo Charger Pressure in dependence with the speed. The team kept to those limits provably during the entire event, especially during Free Practice 1 and 2. The manifold pressure regulation can experience inevitably so-called pressure peaks in different engine stages. There are specific regulations in place for those pressure peaks in terms of allowed numbers and heights across a certain time frame, but so far no reliable measure system. These pressure peaks are therefore calculated using a mathematical formula. The DMSB takes those calculations itself at all ADAC GT Masters events, but the team does not get the information about the calculation basics or the formula in place.

Following the second Free Practice, the team received a notice at 3pm that the adjustments for the manifold pressure as well as the generated peaks are within the limits for both race cars entered by MRS.

At 4pm, approximately 20 minutes prior to the qualifying session, the technical delegate by the DMSB saw the team and handed over a new calculation of the pressure peaks for the race car with the number 22, stating that both the permissible units of the pressure peaks as well as the value would exceed the tolerance line by about five times over. Exceedance of the tolerance should only be for the car with the number 22 despite the fact that both MRS Nissan are equipped with exactly the same turbo mapping. To avoid any legal consequences after the qualifying, the DMSB advised to reduce the manifold pressure by 140 mbar, which equates to a reduction in horsepower by about 40hp.

There were three alternatives to choose from:

  • -  Reduction of the manifold pressure, meaning lap times about two seconds slower
  • -  Participation in qualifying with the same manifold pressure than used in Free Practice, riskinga disqualification afterwards
  • -  Withdrawal from car number 22

The MRS Team decided to go with option three until there will be a comprehensible system to measure the pressure peaks put in place by the DMSB.

It can be said fairly certainly that there has been a calculation and evaluation error, without giving the team a chance to prove it in time before the start of qualifying.

The car with the number 23, Marc Gassner and Florian Strauss, suffered against any other reports and statements, an engine failure of unclear reasons during the second Free Practice. The car caught fire in due course and was heavily damaged. A repair at the race track was no longer possible.
