After our commitments on French soil at Le Mans in the Ferrari Challenge and the 24 Hours, this time Kessel Racing faced a new challenge in Germany at the Nürburgring. The German racing circuit has time and time again seen the team from Grancia race to victory in both the GT races and the Ferrari Challenge, and this year will see the GT cars of Ronnie Kessel’s team on track in two events that the Blancpain GT Series has planned for the 2016 season.
BLANCPAIN GT SPRINT SERIES
The German weekend saw over thirty GT cars take part in the “short” version of the F1 Strecke. The Qualifying Race took place after several free practice sessions with the Ferrari 488 GT3 of Kessel Racing entrusted to Broniszewski/Piccini. They made short work of getting in front of all the cars in the PRO-AM class. Following Saturday’s success, the crew of the black GT car from Maranello responded by taking victory in the Main Race, crossing the checkered flag ahead of Team AKKA ASP’s Mercedes AMG GT3 driven by Beaubelique/Traffort. After the race on German soil Broniszewski/Piccini are still leaders in the PRO-AM class drivers’ standings, while Kessel Racing maintains the lead in the teams classification, ahead of Team AKKA ASP and Team A-Workx.
ANALYSIS
RONNIE KESSEL (Team Principal): “It’s been without doubt another great weekend with Broniszewski and Piccini’s double victory, which confirms our drivers at the very top of the drivers’ classification in this series and also puts the Team in the lead in the teams competition. Now we have a weekend off from our racing commitments and then the long countdown will begin in anticipation of two events at the end of July where we will be on track in the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and the Ferrari Challenge in Sochi. The season is now at a crucial stage, so follow us closely!”
