The long 2013 season of Joel Camathias comes to an end. After the conclusion of the European Le Mans Series more than one month ago, the Swiss driver is preparing for the last event of the International GT Open, the other series he has competed in this year, which will take place this weekend at Barcelona. As tradition wants, the Catalan event will be particularly ‘crowded’, with 41 cars entered.
Together with team mate Mario Cordoni, at the wheel of the Ferrari F458 GT3 of Ombra Racing, Joel aims at finishing on a high a good campaign in the series organized by GT Sport, although the level will be even higher this time, given the many additional competitive contenders present for the occasion.
Joel Camathias: “It’s already time to wrap-up the season and the GT Open’s traditional grand-finale at Barcelona brings back some good memories, as it is here that I have conquered my two titles in the series, back in 2007 and 2009. This time, I’ll certainly be in a more relaxed position, as the stake is not the same. Still, together with Mario Cordoni and the boys at Ombra Racing, we will do our utmost to finish on a high. We had a great outing at Monza and if we can keep that form, we should be OK. This said, it is going to be very difficult, because there are so many additional good cars coming to this race, there are people fighting for the titles and weather conditions may be unpredictable at this period of the year. It is easy to foresee quite some battling on the track, but I like the Barcelona circuit, which has a little bit of everything. To score points will be great, no doubt that the team deserves it and we are very motivated to do well in these two last races.”
