With the traditional GT Open’s closing round at Barcelona this weekend, comes also to an end the 2014 season of Joel Camathias. The Swiss driver, together with team mate Matteo Beretta with whom he shares the Autorlando Sport Porsche 911 R, aims at closing on a high a season that has brought many satisfactions, including the win at Silverstone and five other podium finishes.
On the Catalan track, which Joel likes a lot, the Swiss and the Italian will try also to maintain or even improve their good position in the standings, a fifth which is actually a third, as they are preceded only by two driver pairs, whose drivers have though been untied in points for not having raced all events together.
Joel Camathias:
“It’s already the end of the season, a moment that always seems to come too fast, even if the year has been long and busy. Barcelona is always a special event, also because many additional cars join this last round before the winter break. It’s a fast track, that I always enjoyed and where I have quite some good memories, as it is here that I won my two GT Open overall titles in 2007 and 2009. I have also less pleasant memories, like last year, when I had quite a big shunt in free practice, following a technical problem at the end of the straight. The car went wrecked and I had a big hit on my neck and back, but that’s forgotten now. This year, we will try to finish the season with a very good result. Unfortunately, we are not in the race for the title anymore, but with Matteo and the team of Orlando Redolfi we proved competitive and enjoyed every race. We are going to try to finish on a high, and the Porsche has always been competitive on this track…”
