After clinching the title in the Spanish Iber GT championship yesterday, Isaac Tutumlu becomes first Kurdish driver to win a championship on the International scene. Barzani Racing Team already works on 2014, where the aim is to continue increasing its international commitments.

Step by step Isaac Tutumlu continues shaping his future and legend in the Kurdish motorsport and yesterday he was able to take the title in the Spanish Iber Gt championship. The Spanish driver of Kurdish heritage was facing a difficult weekend but, at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, he managed to clinch the necessary results for being champion at the wheel of Autorlando Sport Porsche 997 GT3 R racing under Barzani Racing Team banner. In the second qualifying session Tutumlu was 7th fastest among Iberian GT contenders, but race two did not have a promising start. A pile-up on the very first lap punctured a Tutumlu ́s car tire and he was forced to pit. From then on, he showed his best driving skills to gain several places and, later, his teammate Dimitris Deverikos secured 5th for the team and scored enough points to win the Iberian series.

“Words can ́t express how I feel right now because before this weekend things were quite difficult battling the Chevrolet Corvette C6R driven by Ramos and Pastorelli. At the start, when the pile-up happened, I slowed down, unlike other cars. So I suffered a puncture and had to pit. After the safety-car, I pushed harder than ever, overtaking four or five cars but then Lorenzo Bontempelli, being quite aggressive, almost forced me to retire. So my advantage was gone”, Tutumlu explained afterwards. Without giving in “I pushed once again and at the end of my stint, I was in top-5 of Int ́l GT Open. Dimitris completed a good second stint and, after fighting with drivers like Kevin Ceccon or César Campaniço, we were able to win the championship even when the car was damaged from first lap, not well balanced and suffering from understeer and oversteer”. This success is, in the words of Tutumlu, “for Barzani family and the Kurdish people. It was quite difficult. Of course I want to thank family and friends their unwavering support. Barzani Racing Team will announce other international projects for next year soon, always focused on increasing our presence on the global stage”.
