The Spanish driver of Kurdish ancestry, after first race of the Spanish Iber GT championship in Barcelona, has moved closer to the leaders and Tutumlu now approaches tomorrow ́s race just five points behind.
Despite Isaac Tutumlu was not able to finish on the podium, his target previous to the race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Barzani Racing Team driver moved closer to the overall leaders in the Spanish Iber GT championship, also carrying out a superb performance in the International GT Open. In the morning his teammate Dimitris Deverikos finished 19th in Q1 behind the wheel of the Autorlando Sport Porsche 997 GT3 R racing under the Barzani Racing Team banner. Later in race one, consisting of 70 minutes, Deverikos completed a good opening stint before Tutumlu took over. As always, the Kurdish star was impressive and, from 18th and posting several extremely quick lap times in GTS class, he finished sixth in the Iberian classification and 8th in the Int ́l T Open, so his title chances keep even stronger for tomorrow.
“Qualifying sessions were quite difficult, due to traffic on track. But anyway Dimitris was fast considering today ́s circumstances. He made no mistakes at the beginning and I took over always trying my best. I was faster than the cars finishing on the podium, but I was too far away by then, so our possibilities to catch them were remote”, Tutumlu said, also underlining that “I ́ve felt great battling with Aston Martin, Audi or Lamborghini cars, or even some Ferraris, despite they are pretty fast at this stage. I was angry with a Russian SMP Racing driver, his driving maneuvers were quite dangerous, not just with me but with almost everyone. I hope measures will be adopted as this kind of behavior should not be allowed on a racing track. Now, I ́m completely focused on race two and I only have an aim in sights: the Iberian title”.
Tomorrow race two at noon and decisive for the Spanish Iber GT championship.
