Guy Smith made his return to Bentley Team Dyson Racing memorable with a strong drive in his Bentley Continental GT3 to third place in Sunday afternoon’s 50-minute Pirelli World Challenge sprint race at Miller Motorsports Park.
“It’s really good to be back with the Dyson team, and to have a good result on the first weekend,” said Smith, a long-time Dyson driver who also races for Bentley in Europe and did much of the development work on the Continental GT3 race car. “We overcame some setbacks this weekend, but the car had great balance and got stronger as the race progressed.”
Starting sixth on the grid, Smith moved steadily through the field until he caught up to Dalziel’s Porsche. Their riveting duel over the second half of the race was the focus of the video coverage and promises to be a major part of next weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge race broadcast by CBS Sports Network, Sunday, 30 August, 4:00 PM Eastern (GMT -5).
In recognition of setting the race’s fastest lap, as well as his tight battle with series point leader Dalziel over the last half of the race, Smith also received the “Move of the Race” award.
Chris Dyson started 16th and unfortunately found himself trapped for much of the race behind a thick knot of cars. He finished 14th. “I expect both Guy and I will have very good races next weekend at Sonoma,” Dyson said.
