A number of adjustments, both of technical and sportive nature, will be introduced into the International GT Open as from 2014, with a view to adapt the series to the constant evolution of the GT racing market, better differentiate the two categories (SuperGT and GTS), and ultimately, offer a more attractive product to competitors.

The main changes include an extended definition of the SuperGT class, which will now allow top GT3 cars with some adaptations, and a categorization of drivers, which will now be divided in two groups, Professional and Amateur. Driver line-ups containing two professionals will be automatically included in the Super GT category.

The changes entry into force as from the forthcoming Winter Series, which will be a good ground to test (and, if necessary, fine-tune) the measures ahead of the start of the official season.

“We have been giving thorough thought to these measures and taken the advice of our competitors”, explains Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, “and I think we have come up with a good package that takes into account the evolution of the GT cars market and helps giving each category a clearer identity. I think this will result in a more balanced, updated and attractive situation for the championship”.
