The 2015 GT Cup season officially launched at a sunny Brands Hatch yesterday (18th February).

The championship joined many other MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) series in unveiling their 2015 championship plans. Journalists and other specially invited members of the media were treated to passenger rides in the GT Cup cars in attendance.

Phil Burgan’s United Autosports-run Audi R8 LMS ultra, the Porsche 997 of Rebecca Jackson and Mike Sellar, the Lotus Evora of Kevin Riley, and Nigel Armstrong and Jamie Dawson’s Porsche 997 were the cars and drivers representing the GT Cup.

The drivers and teams taking part in this years’ championship were involved in media activities in the morning followed by an open testing in the afternoon, giving them the opportunity to get some crucial track time in before the start of the season.

This year, all the 30 full-season spaces were snapped up by the end of January, meaning there will again be a healthy grid of exotic GT cars at the first round at Donington Park on 25-26 April. The championship still has a number of race-by-race entries available and has gathered a lot of interest by keen competitors. There are still spaces for those drivers wanting to take part in the championship on a race-by-race basis. If you are interested, please get in touch with Hannah Wilson - Hannah@butemotorsport.co.uk

Tom Baker, Media Coordinator, GT Cup:

“The media day was a really good day. I think the drivers representing the GT Cup had a good time. It was sunny and dry so they got a lot of track time, which will be beneficial to them for the upcoming season. There were lots of people from the media there and there was a good buzz about the start of the GT Cup season.”

 Phil Burgan, driver, United Autosports:

“The last time I came to Brands Hatch was in 1996 in an old Ferrari 348 which was very different to the Audi R8 and Graham Hill bend has changed since then too, so I was learning the track all over again. In the morning I was taking my time, learning the racing lines till I got a bit more comfortable. The first session in the afternoon we were more on the pace. This year I want to get the most out of me and the Audi, I’d like to win the championship but you never know what will happen. I’m going to do my best but with racing, anything can happen.”
