unlucky beginning that of Giorgio Roda at the European Le Mans series. On the Silverstone track, after having obtained the second time in the qualifying with Marco Cioci and having managed a good run, during the 65th lap, a contact with the Aston Martin of Moller, has closed in advance the first seasonal race of Giorgio. The young driver, when starting his second race stint, found on his way the Aston Martin of Moller which was going on very slowly, since its driver was trying to let prototype pass him ahead. After having taken a curve, Roda was too close to the car of the Danish Simon Moller to avoid it. Giorgio Roda tried to go ahead with the race but the damages to the Ferrari 458 Italia of AF Corse, were much more stronger than his desire to cross the finishing line. It was a real pity specially after having seen the very good performances during the English weekend, that the Team of the Ferrari 458 Italia, N.63 had done.
“this is endurance ! The major difficulty is that of having to look into the wing mirrors and at the same time, keep the situation of what is happening in front of you, under control. Due to a little oversight one can lose a race, and today unfortunately, is this the case. I found in front of me, the Aston Martin of Moller which was going on very slowly, and at that point I couldn’t do anything else but running in contact with it. I am back from Silverstone with a bitter taste in my mouth but at the same time I have very good chances for the season continuation. Our car was among the fastest on the track, and our team behaved extraordinary well both in the free tests and in qualifying. Ilya made a perfect race stint and showed that he too, can be very fast. As far as me concerns, I am satisfied of the times I obtained, as in the free tests I got the fifth absolute result among the GTC teams. Now we must not let discouraged but we must focus on Imola. Since this year I will not run in Monza, Imola will be my home race and I hope I will be able to repay all the job made by the team, by getting an excellent placing.”
The second round of the European Le Mans Series is in program in Imola, the coming 16th and 17th May.
