Following a successful Le Mans test at the Circuit de la Sarthe over the weekend, Ginetta can today confirm plans to submit an expression of interest to the Automobile Club de l’Ouest with a view to become one of the licensed chassis manufacturers for LMP2 from 2017.

As the LMP3 project has shown, Ginetta are committed to their LMP programme, and as yet, are the only manufacturer to make LMP3 a reality. To that end, the in-house CAD team have already begun design work and will build a modified version of an LMP3 chassis in order to explore the feasibility of a P2 project.

The Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 has been crash-tested to the same standards as that of an LMP1 car, therefore the British marque have all the relevant data ready to apply to the next stage of prototype development.

Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson said;“I am happy to confirm Ginetta will be expressing our interest to become one of the four licensed chassis manufacturers for LMP2. Ginetta are committed to offering a genuine motorsport ladder for our customers, and LMP2 would further extend our current career options.

We have been producing race-winning GT cars for a number of years now, and have a reputation for delivering in large numbers and against tight deadlines. We’ve learnt an incredible amount from our LMP3 car, and it forms a great basis upon which to build an LMP2 car, which we believe we could do very well given the resources we already have.”

The Yorkshire based manufacturer has taken the motorsport world by storm with their Ginetta-Nissan LMP3, which has received rave reviews across the board since its debut in the European Le Mans Series in March 2015 and class podium in the Britcar 24 Hours.

All prospective manufacturers must submit an expression of interest by June 10, and those selected will be able to supply the WEC, European Le Mans Series, Tudor United Sportscar Championship and the Asian Le Mans Series.
