A year of astonishing success for Team LNT and their ground-breaking Ginetta Nissan Prototype continued at the final race of the European Le Mans Series season in Portugal today with a first victory for the #2 car of Nissan GT Academy winner Gaetan Paletou and Ginetta Factory Driver Mike Simpson at the historic Estoril circuit.
It means that the Ginetta has won every race this season and has seen Team LNT take first and second positions in the Drivers and Teams Championships in the brand new for 2015 LMP3 class.
Championship winners Sir Chris Hoy and his season long Team LNT team-mate and Ginetta racing prodigy Charlie Robertson came home third on the day as the young Frenchman, in his first ever year of racing, made a brave call to stay on slick tyres when heavy rain struck.
Mike Simpson said; “That was a very tough call and he called it 100% correctly when others took the conservative route. It won the race for us today.”
In what was one of the most eagerly awaited head-to-heads of the 2015 European Le Mans Series, Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 was joined on track for the first time by the Ligier JS P3 Nissan.
Team LNT proved their machine was still the one to beat at Estoril, setting the quickest times of all LMP3 cars in both wet, dry and changeable conditions and taking pole position, fastest race lap (#3) and the class win (#2), capping a fantastic season.
