Teo Martin Motorsport today announced that Fernando Monje is joining the Spanish squad to drive one of its BMW M6 GT3 in the International GT Open 2016 season.
Despite his young age (22), the Catalan driver has wide experience, having successfully competed in various touring cars series, including the WTCC, the TCR and the ETCC (where he won the title in 2012), and in single-seaters, where he contested GT Sport’s European F.3 Open in 2010-11. He also has under his belt some participations in the GT Open, where he conquered his first win last year in Barcelona, precisely with Teo Martín Motorsport.
Monje is the second driver announced by Teo Martín Motorsport for 2016, after Colombian Gustavo Yacamán. The other two and the definitive pairings will be known shortly.
Fernando Monje commented: “I am very happy to be back with Teo Martin after the success in last year’s race at Montmeló. I am also delighted to work again with Emilio de Villota after the experience together in Formula 3, so I’m eager to drive the BMW M6 GT3 in the next test in Barcelona. The standards are very high after the team won the International GT Open title last year, so the goal should be to go for the title again”.
Teo Martin said: “Fernando’s first contact with Emilio’s team was when he was only 14 years old and the personal relationship that has remained with him since then has been very good. We know well his driving skills and after the positive experience with our team in the International GT Open in 2015, we hope to achieve many successes together as from this season”.
