In celebration of winning the 2014 Australian GT Championship, Erebus Motorsport has today concluded the year by unveiling the #1 Championship-winning car at its Victorian workshop where Erebus Motorsport owners Betty and Daniel Klimenko were joined by CEO Ryan Maddison, and General Manager Barry Ryan in commemorating the young team’s important milestone.

Dominating the Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli from the outset in 2014, Erebus Motorsport amassed three round wins, and seven race wins, clinching the team’s inaugural championship.

Erebus Academy driver Richard Muscat piloted the SLS AMG GT3 throughout the 2014 Australian GT Championship, along with fellow Erebus Academy driver Jack Le Brocq, and Erebus Motorsport endurance co-driver Craig Baird, who each partnered Muscat for the endurance rounds at Phillip Island and Highlands Motorsport Park.

Highlights of this season included emphatic race wins from the rear of the grid at Sandown Raceway and Sydney Motorsport Park, where Muscat also set a stunning new pole lap record.

Erebus Motorsport also still maintains lap records at both Phillip Island and Sydney Motorsport Park from the 2013 Australian GT Championship season where Erebus Academy driver Jack Le Brocq scorched the field.

In 2014 Le Brocq carried on his success in the Erebus Motorsport SLS AMG GT3 as part of the trio of drivers who scored a podium placing at the 2014 Bathurst 12-Hour, along with Will Davison and Greg Crick.

Since the inception of Erebus Motorsport in mid-2011, the team has had astonishing success placing on the podium in all three years competing in the Bathurst 12-Hour including a race win in 2013, making Erebus Motorsport the first team to have had such a high achievement rate within such a short time.

The team is also the most successful of the 45 outfits within the AMG Customer Sports Program, now adding the 2014 Australian GT Championship to the already impressive list of accolades which includes international accomplishments such as winning a race in GT Asia at the Zhuhai International Circuit, and an impressive assault on the 2013 Macau Grand Prix where the team led the race from pole position until a puncture sadly halted the almost-certain win, three laps from the end.

As part of the Erebus Academy, rising stars Richard Muscat and Jack Le Brocq have reaped the rewards of the program which facilitates the development of young drivers, and provides opportunities such as racing in the 24 Hours of Spa as Muscat did when Erebus Motorsport partnered with the Black Falcon race team in July.

Helping young drivers shape their careers and realise their racing dreams is central to the Erebus Academy program, which is always seeking to find young talented Australian drivers.

2014 has been a successful year for the Erebus Academy with Richard Muscat securing the Australian GT Championship, and graduating from the Academy program to continue his motorsport journey.

Similarly, Jack Le Brocq will also graduate from the Academy program, progressing his motorsport development in the Dunlop Series in 2015, with ongoing support from Erebus Motorsport who will continue to seek to enhance the youngster’s opportunities.

Assisting young drivers to branch out into different motorsport categories whilst continuing their association with Erebus Motorsport is key to the Academy’s core principles.

Early in the new year, the Erebus Academy will announce its 2015 drivers.
