Tell us about your previous experiences in Macau?

“2013 was my first time in Macau. I drove a Porsche GT3 Cup car in a support race in wet conditions and I had a huge battle with Sebastien Loeb. I held him off to grab my first win in Macau. I also competed in the Macau GT Cup in 2013 and 2014. Coming here is a real highpoint for me each year.”

You’ve been switching from LM P1 to GT all year long. Difficult?

“It’s very hard to compare the two categories. What’s clear is that the competition level in both is very high. I really like the close racing and battles you have in GT; it’s something I’ve been doing for the last three years.”

What’s your best memory about your victory at Le Mans?

“The best memory is to see your car driving down the pit lane towards you and then riding down the pit lane with my teammates, Nick and Nico. It was amazing and something I will never forget. I’ve had a lot of good races and learnt a great deal in my first season as a factory driver for Porsche. I couldn’t believe I got the chance to race the LM P1 car in the first place, especially at Spa and Le Mans. But some of our best races were in the USA where Porsche took 1-2 at Road America and VIR (Virginia International Raceway).”

Do you enjoy racing on the Guia circuit? What makes it so special?

“For me, the Macau circuit is one of the most challenging in the world. With both high and low speed corners and no room for error it’s a great test for the driver and the team.”

How does it compare to another famous street circuit, Monaco?

“Both are great circuits. However, Macau is one of my favourites in the world.”

The last Porsche GT victory in Macau was in 2008, do you think you can update the stats this year?

“I’m still chasing another win after my first race in Macau. The competition is really tough this year. But I think first of all you need to think about trying to beat the circuit and then see where you end up at the end of the weekend. We have a different format this year as well, so that’ll bring a new dynamic to the event.”

What do you think about the new FIA GT World Cup concept?

“I think it’s great that we get a lot more track time and two races this year. I like the idea of a World Cup in GT.”
