It was a first day of intense work, in all conditions, for the part of the 2016 GT Open contenders that opted to be present in the testing session scheduled at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona. With the two one-hour sessions of the morning on dry track and the two of the afternoon on wet, participants had the opportunity to test all weather set-ups.

Lap times were not the objective today, but results sheets saw the TF Sport Aston Martin of Euan Hankey-Salih Yoluc taking the best time of the day (1.47.471) after topping three out of the four sessions, beating by a mere 0.091 seconds the Balfe Motorsport Ferrari of Keen-Balfe. Belgium’s Jürgen Smet, on one of the Monlau Competición Renaults RS01 GT3, took third-fastest after being on top in session 4 on the wet.

Despite running most of the day without a transponder, the Porsche 911R of German team a-workx, entrusted to Sebastian Asch and Dietmar Ulrich, was fouth-fastest, ahead of the AF Corse Ferrari of Sdanewitsch-Lémeret.

For Teo Martín Motorsport, today was the first opportunity to be on track with their new BMWs M6, still in black livery. Miguel Ramos, Gustavo Yacamán and Fernando Monje were joined in driving duties by Spain’s Roldán Rodríguez, the former GP2 driver and F.1 tester.

Without recorded times, but effectively on track, was also a second Monlau Renault RS01, at the wheel of which Thailand’s former Euroformula contender Tanart Sathientirakul made his GT debut. Tomorrow, the group will be joined by the Porsche 911 Cup of Mallégol-Blank-Bachelier.
