The Madrid-based team will enter its Audi R8 LMS ultra at the 24 hours of Barcelona and four drivers of well-proven experience and speed on the international stage: England´s William Paul, Spain´s Daniel Díaz-Varela, Guatemala´s Andrés Saravia and Saudi Arabia´s Saud Al Faisal
Drivex won´t miss its rendezvous at the 24 hours of Barcelona, the famous and classis endurance race taking place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 2-4 September.
The Spanish team, whose racing background includes 2nd place in A3T class with a Volkswagen Scirocco in 2014 and a podium finish in class with a Porsche 991 Cup last year, will enter the same Audi R8 LMS ultra that made its debut in this race in 2015. Then, the Audi-built car delivered a strong performance and following minor teething problems at the start, it quickly advanced up the pack to slip into podium contention. The German car set the pole position at the 24 hours of Paul Ricard with Argentinean Juan Cruz Álvarez at the wheel. This time, it will be driven by William Paul (England), Daniel Díaz-Varela (Spain), Andrés Saravia (Guatemala) and Saud Al Faisal (Saudi Arabia).
Both Paul and Díaz-Varela make their comeback to drive the Audi R8 LMS ultra as the same duo also joined the Drivex team last year. They both will try to follow the same path of the Spanish GT championship, in which the duo stepped onto the podium on several occasions. Saravia also put valuable experience under his belt behind the wheel of the German car in the International GT Open. In fact, the Central American driver claimed a second-place finish at Estoril in April. Al Faisal, who has experience in the European F3 series just like Saravia, will make his debut in the GT3-spec car but it won´t his first appearance at endurance events at all. Actually, Al Faisal took a class win at the 24 hours of Dubai and drove other GT3 cars.
Up to 65 cars will be entered with A6 class including 18 GT3 machines. Drivex will hit the track on Thursday for the very first time during private testing. Following this first outing, free practice session will be held on Friday at 16.30 ahead of qualifying at 18.00. The 24-hour race will get underway at noon on Saturday.
Miguel Ángel de Castro: “Barcelona is always a key moment of the season. It becomes one of the most relevant endurance events across Europe and our goal is always ensuring success. We secured podium finishes two years in a row. We finished second with our Volkwagen Scirocco GT24 two years ago and third with our Porsche 991 Cup last year, then also securing a top-ten finish. Accidentally, our first event with our Audi R8 LMS ultra was the 24 hours of Barcelona. Despite it was our debut, we showed speed and solid pace over the weekend. Now, our experience is much bigger as our pole position at the Paul Ricard 24 hours or our podiums in the International GT Open prove. In the same way, our drivers are well-seasoned ones and quick at the same time. This event gets stronger every year and gets the bar higher, but I feel confident.”
