Starting in the the second half of the 1950s, NART existed for three decades, during which it experienced successes on the tracks of America and Europe. It also suffered financial difficulties, and arguments with track organisers.

This book explains what NART was, how it was formed, and what it achieved over three decades of competition. It wasn’t just sports cars that were entered into races, NART entered Formula One cars and Formula Junior cars as well.

Never as financially stable as his rival team owners, Chinetti did deals with Ferrari to purchase the latest specification sports cars at the end of a season, in order to attract the best drivers to drive for NART. It was also an opportunity to lease the cars on a race-by-race basis, an arrangement that appealed to some of Chinetti’s clientele.

Whilst success on the track was significant, problems were never far away. Working on the cars with a limited number of staff, and not receiving spares from Ferrari on time, NART always appeared to be in a state of crisis.

No matter … despite the difficulties, the formula worked well for Luigi Chinetti, and the acronym N.A.R.T. has rightly become legendary.

One year on from Porsche’s return to top level sports car racing, and in front of more than 200,000 spectators, the brand celebrated its 17th overall win at the Le Mans 24 hours. The close-knit team celebrated as one as the Porsche 919 Hybrid, driven by Nico Hülkenberg, Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy crossed the finish line. Months of preparation led to this extraordinary result, after 24 hours of hard racing. The tension during the final lap was palpable, and the tears of joy as the chequered flag waved could hardly be contained. Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard completed the 1-2 for Porsche by finishing second overall. In the GT-Pro class, one of the two works-entered 911s secured fifth place while in the GT-Am category, Hollywood star Patrick Dempsey finished second in class after a performance worthy of a film script. In words and images, this book documents the entire story of the Porsche teams during the 83rd running of the Le Mans 24 Hours, from the presentation of the cars to the final result, via the test day, scrutineering, the practice sessions and the drivers’ parade and also, of course, all the action from the great race.

The Audi R8 LMS has clinched more than 100 race wins and numerous championship titles during its first three years in competition and won many fans. The official book covering the AUDI AG customer racing program is now published in time for Christmas: “Audi Sport customer racing 2009, 2010, 2011.”

Author Thomas Voigt details the development of the fascinating GT3 sportscars and the creation of Audi’s customer racing program, which forms Audi’s third element in motorsport alongside the factory programs with the sports prototypes and the touring cars, on 256 colorful pages. Several “eyewitnesses” including development driver Frank Biela and Romolo Liebchen, Head of Audi Sport customer racing, also recount their experiences. Werner Frowein, Managing Director of quattro GmbH, wrote the foreword.

More than 700 photographs reveal the increasingly colorful world of Audi customer racing – including an overview of every design adorning an Audi R8 LMS in its first three years of competition. The most important racing series’ and races, in which the Audi R8 LMS joined the grid, are illuminated year by year. The Audi TT RS is also described in detail. A comprehensive statistic chapter including all the results from 2009, 2010 and 2011 completes the volume created in close cooperation with quattro GmbH.

“Audi Sport customer racing” is planned to be published as an annual at the end of each season, designed to become an essential collector’s item for fans of both the Audi R8 LMS and Audi customer racing fans. It continues the series of successful Audi motorsport books. The German version of the book “30 years of Audi Sport” published in 2010 is already sold out.

“Audi Sport customer racing 2009, 2010, 2011″ is published in bilingual format (German/English) by the Hamburg Speedpool Verlag and is now available to purchase for 29.90 Euro at specialist bookshops or online at www.racing1.de. It is also available as an eBook through various online platforms. A special iPad version will be released in January 2012.
