It was James Davison of St. Petersburg, Fla. in the No. 33 Nissan AE/ReplayXD/NISSAN NISMO GT-R GT3 on the top of the time charts in the afternoon Pirelli World Challenge practice at Miller Motorsports Park for the Ford Grand Prix presented by VP Racing Fuels. Davison ran a quick lap of 1:48.922. Frank Montecalvo of Highlands, N.J. was fastest in GTA, while Colin Thompson of Doylestown, Pa. led GT Cup. Kevin Estre of Lochau, Austria opened the session by taking his K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 to the top of the time sheets with a lap of 1:49.498. Davison responded, lowering the fast time by a tenth before Johnny O’Connell of Flowery Branch, Ga. in the No. 3 Cadillac Racing Cadillac ATS-VR GT3 took the fast time down to 1:48.952.
Davison then ran another quick lap and the fastest lap of the session with a 1:48.922, leading the time sheets in the afternoon. O’Connell was second fastest, trailing by just .024 seconds, while Guy Smith of Beverley, England in No. 20 Team Bentley Dyson Racing Bentley/Breitling/Mobil1 Bentley Continental GT3 was third quick after leading the morning practice.
Six different manufacturers were represented by the six top positions in GT.
Montecalvo driving the No. 66 DragonSpeed Bayshore Racing Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS GT3 took the fast time early in the session for the GTA category. A few minutes later, Bret Curtis of Austin, Texas went to the top of the GTA time sheets in the No. 32 Turner Motorsports SPECTRA Resources Corp/United Steel Supply/Valspar Paint BMW E89 Z4 GT3.
With just ten minutes to go Montecalvo lowered the fast time down to 1:50.562 and went even faster on his final lap, with 1:49.746 putting him sixth overall and first in GTA while Curtis had the second fastest lap in class.
Colin Thompson of Doylestown, PA in the Kelly-Moss Motorsports Porsche of Bucks County/Penn Valley Constructors/Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes/Austin Hatcher Foundation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was fastest for the second straight practice session in the GT Cup category. Thompson posted a quick lap of1:54.336.
Alec Udell, of The Woodlands, Texas in the No. 17 GMG Amsource Capital/Panther Pipeline Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was second fastest in GT Cup.
