Coming off of a modest run at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, which saw Cheng debut in the #66 RG Racing Riley Dinan BMW Daytona Prototype. “it was a really good experience to do the Rolex 24 at Daytona again this year. what a difference this race feels in a year after the merger, IMSA has done a really good job from the sporting and regulation side.”

“Also for myself it was a fantastic opportunity to work with RG Racing in their first race together in TUDOR. It was my first taste of a DP car over the weekend as i missed the Roar test, but i felt like i adjusted to it quickly as was posting competitive times to what the car could do in the first practice session and setting the quickest time for the car early on in the race.”

Looking ahead to his full 2015 schedule the two time consecutive Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 Champion is setting his sights on Europe. “Having taken Wins and Podiums in American Le Mans series in LMPC and capturing the Asian Le Mans Series title twice the next challenge is to look towards European Le Mans Series, WEC and of course the 24 Hours of Le Mans race it’s self.”

Plans to contest a full season in ELMS with previous LM24 teammate Adderly Fong and Leo Roussel with Pegasus Racing in an Onroak Morgan LMP2 are developing. Cheng says “Our sponsors and partners in China are looking for the most effective exposure with a team with 2 Chinese drivers. To have LM24 will be an important part of our program.”

With the ELMS season and LM24 will be the trio of Cheng-Fong-Roussel looking set pending the ACO’s decision on the team’s 24 hour bid. Cheng has also stated the interest in select rounds of the WEC when the series goes in its Asian leg.

As well the two time Series Champion said that he has taken an interest in the LMP3 format in Asian. “AsLMS is a very cost effective way of getting valuable track time. This series has been a really good training ground for Asian drivers to get experience of endurance racing, and the LMP3 platform will be a fantastic tool to further the development of racing in Asia.”
