Just a couple of weeks after the duo scored their best finish of the year so far, Strategic Wealth Racing drivers Matt Dicken and Corey Lewis will team up once again this weekend in the Goldcrest Motorsports-prepared No. 36 Strategic Wealth Designers Porsche Cayman at Virginia International Raceway.
The Road America round saw Dicken and Lewis score their first IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge top-10 finish of the year, building on the momentum earned at Lime Rock Park in July when the first-year squad led their first laps of IMSA competition.
Many of the tracks in the first half of the season were new to Dicken and the first-year Strategic Wealth team, so the return to familiar territory at VIR is a welcome one. Not only is the 3.27-mile Virginian road course one Dicken has previously competed on, it’s also very well known to Dicken’s co-driver Corey Lewis.
In 2014, Lewis competed at VIR in three different series in just one weekend, completing runs in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition, as well as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series and the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
The familiarity of the circuit should help bolster results for the Strategic Wealth team as it bodes well for both driver adaptability and team set up. The team benefited from this familiarity at Road America where, despite limited dry weather practice time, the car’s set-up was near perfect and the team was rewarded with a top-10 finish. Dicken, Lewis, and the entire Strategic Wealth Racing squad hope to even better that result at VIR on Saturday
“We’ve been really focused on the second half of this season, taking what we learned in the first few races and putting it all together for the last three rounds,” said Dicken. “We knew that there were a lot of tracks where I hadn’t even been, let alone had experience on. So to go to a place like Road America with some laps under my belt and have that turn into our best finish of the year, that was pretty satisfying. We know that we’ve got more learning to do, but I am hoping that going to another track where I’ve run before, that we can have a similar outcome like Road America.”
The weekend kicks off with a promoter test day on Thursday. Official practice and qualifying will take place on Friday with the green flag set to wave for the 2.5-hour VIR event at 1:25 PM ET on Saturday. The race will be streamed LIVE on IMSA.com as well as on the IMSA app.
