The historic race track north-east of Toronto, formerly known as Mosport, has traditionally been very kind to Houston-based GT team Risi Competizione.  In the team’s last six appearances at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park it has claimed three GT class wins and three second places.  2014 has not proved to be so kind.

Despite the consistent and best efforts of its highly experienced and talented drivers, Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer, Risi’s No.62 Ferrari 458 Italia finished at the back of the manufacturer-led GTLM category.  The team once again performed flawlessly in the pits, and there were no mechanical issues with the car or problems with other competitors, but the Ferrari was simply not able to compete in performance terms with the factory entries from BMW, Corvette, Dodge Viper and Porsche.

The Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix’s GTLM category was won by the No.3 Corvette of Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia and the race took place under warm sunshine (93o ambient/98o track at race start) following this morning’s heavy rain.

Team Manager David Sims commented after the race:  “That was tough to watch.  We didn’t put a foot wrong in the race, but it appears we’ve reached the limit of the car’s performance as it is right now.  We’ve talked to IMSA a lot this weekend – mainly to do with our concerns over the safety team – but now we have to wait to see what comes out of any further conversations regarding BoP between IMSA and Michelotto who is the official manufacturer of the Ferrari GTEs. ”

The next round of the TUDOR United Sportscar Championship will be the Brickyard Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IN, on 24-25 July.  The 2h45 minute race will be for all four classes within the championship.
