When BAR1 Motorsports returns to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday, July 3, competing in the 2016 Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup, the car will feature a completely new look with the No. 20 Prototype carrying the colors of GasMonkey Energy.

IMSA released a 42-car entry list for the event, which serves as Round 6 of the WeatherTech Championship and Round 3 of the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup. In PC, Sebring class winners CORE Autosport and BAR1 Motorsports are tied for third with 20 points.

At the wheel of the No. 20 GasMonkey Engery Prototype will be BAR1’s season driver, Johnny Mowlem, accompanied by Matt McMurry and Don Yount.

“We’re extremely pleased to have GasMonkey Energy along for the ride,” expressed team owner, Brian Alder, joining our season partners, Southwest Funding and TOP 1 Oil. We really excited and the car looks great!”

“The Glen has been a good race for us,” noted Alder. “We’ve been on the podium the last two years, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Personally, this is my favorite track and it’s is a great track for the prototypes. The drivers can really let the car stretch its legs and with the new surface, the pace is going to be very fast. We had a great test here a few weeks back and I’m confident we’ll do well here.”

With over 140 feet in elevation changes  – twice each lap – the drivers, will be faced with a number of challenges. Each lap around The Glen includes long, fast straightaways, downhill cornering, uphill exits and a full compliment of high, medium and low speed corners. Throw in the new surface and some seriously heavy braking zones and you’ll understand why the Glen is a favorite among drivers.

Practice for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen begins at 11:25 a.m. ET on Friday, July 1, with qualifying on Saturday at 3:40 p.m. ET. The six-hour race on the 3.4-mile circuit will be televised live on FS1, beginning at 10 a.m. ET.

BAR1 will also field two cars in the Mazda Prototype Lites presented by Cooper Tires.

Brian Alder returns following is first outing in the L1 division at Sebring in March. There, he finished 11th in the race 1 and while turning extremely quick laps in race 2, Alder was caught up in a late race incident involving other cars.

“I’m really comfortable at the Glen,” said Alder. “The No. 22 Top 1 Oil car is good here, so I’m hopeful for a solid result. Fielding two cars also helps the crew sort the cars using additional data.”

Don Yount will pull double duty this weekend as he will also drive in the Mazda Prototype Lites Presented by Cooper Tires behind the wheel of the No. 28 Lites Prototype. Yount, the L1 Masters Champion in 2014 is looking forward to racing at the Glen and hoping to continue his winning ways.
