After a 10-month long season, everything will come down to the ten-hour showdown at Road Atlanta. October 1 – 4, and the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup finale at Road Atlanta’s Petit Le Mans Powered By Mazda. It will be one of the most exciting weekends in history.
Announcing the return of Tomy Drissi and David Cheng, BAR1 Motorsports is prepared to launch a full on assault in defense of their 2013 victory at Road Atlanta.
Trans Am champion, Tomy Drissi will join Marc Drumwright and Martin Plowman, co-piloting the No. 87 BAR1 Motorsports, DRACULA Untold / SRA Southwest Realty Advisors No. 87 PC car.
David Cheng will partner with ace sports car specialist Johnny Mowlem, along with Ferrari Challenge champion, Tom Papadopoulos, driving the No. 88 BAR1 Motorsports PC, sponsored by Autosport Design and the Orsun Group.
Both Drissi and Cheng arrive with outstanding resumes.
Cheng enjoys career highlights in 2013 winning the 12 Hours of Sebring in LMPC and the inaugural Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 Driver’s Championship. This year, 2014, saw David Finishing 4th in 24 Hours of Daytona, 3rd at 12 Hours of Sebring, 2nd at 6 Hours of Watkins Glen in the LMPC class in North America while debuting in the Famous 24 Hours of Le Mans finishing 7th in LMP2 class, 11th Overall and also winning both rounds of the Asian Le Mans Series thus far in his campaign to defend his title.
Since winning his Trans Am championship, Drissi returned to the American Le Mans LMPC division in 2011, scoring a 2nd at Long Beach, 3rd at Lime Rock, 1st at Mid Ohio, 1st at Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix and second at Road Atlanta -Petit Le Mans. In 2012, Drissi teamed with Bruno Junqiera for finishing 2nd at Laguna Seca, a win at Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park), 2nd at Baltimore and second at the season finale, Petit Lemans.
The ten hour Petit Le Mans has become one of the classic endurance races in the world. It quickly points out the strengths and weaknesses in a team. The 2.54 mile circuit is extremely fast. This year’s event will see 56 cars fighting for track position with wins and championships up for grabs in all four classes.
In addition, this will be the fourth and final leg of the Patrón North American Endurance Championship. The Patrón Endurance Cup recognizes the top performers in the four endurance races on the TUDOR Championship schedule. It opened with the Rolex 24 At Daytona and continued with the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida and the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International. Points are awarded on a five-four-three-two basis at key segments in each event; for Petit Le Mans, points will be scored at the four-hour and eight-hour marks in addition to the finish after 10 hours. The top teams in the Prototype (P) and GT Le Mans (GTLM) classes receive $100,000, with a $50,000 year-end prize in both the Prototype Challenge (PC) and GT Daytona (GTD) classes.
