The first Asian race weekend for High Class Racing driver Thomas Fjordbach took place with round one of Audi R8 LMS Cup 2015. The Chinese Circuit of Zhuhai, was the inaugural meeting for the R8 drivers in a very competitive championship that will visit a part from this, other five of the best tracks over Asia.
Fjordbach started this racing season in Asia after a successful last year in GTM in GT Asia. “Last season I was satisfied with the level of competition and cars that run here in Asia, in GT Asia we made a very good season with intense battles and good podium finishes inside GTM. So this year I have it clear to race again in here, and contest one of the most interesting and well organized series, that represents the Audi R8 LMS Cup. I am very motivated and I will fight from first laps”
The first race, which was programmed in 16 laps, was also the first race contact of the Aalborg driver with the Audi R8 LMS. When rolling start was completed Fjordbach took advantage in the first corners to gain a good position that smartly he conserved until the checkered flag. He finally ended in an excellent sixth place that able he to score 8 value points in overall standings.
Second race of the weekend on Sunday 11.40 local time, was made with standing start for first time in Audi R8 LMS Cup history, but sadly ended early than expected. In the first laps some cars went out of the track limits and carried out high quantity of gravel into the track which caused problems with the cars. Completed only 3 laps the race direction decided stop the competition and not to restart due to the time delay that will cause the cleaning of cars and track. Fjordbach which made a very good start was running in P3 before the red flag, with an ambitious race strategy. The points were no assigned because is not completed the 50% of the race distance.
Thomas Fjordbach explained at the end of the weekend his sensations in this first round “I leave Zhuhai happy with the first meeting of the series. The car worked very well and I was confident with it in this track. We have our first points and we learnt a lot this weekend. Sadly there was a red flag in the second race, while we were in P3, and we wanted to show more things on the track but it’s OK, we will keep fighting in the next one”.
Next racing compromise of High Class Racing will be in French Circuit of Nogaro (4-6/April) in the round 1 of Blancpain Sprint Series for Thomas and Anders Fjordbach.
