In preparation for the first outing of the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC on the Nürburgring, several teams have conducted tests on the storied race track in Germany’s Eifel region. So has Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing team aboard the Porsche 911 RSR in the LMGTE Am class of the WEC.

A two-day test at the Nürburgring was a taster of the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) to be held on August 30. The Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing was running a Porsche 911 RSR on Monday and Tuesday, sharing the 5.137 Km circuit with an impressive field of 19 other WEC cars.

Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing Team consisted of Khaled Al Qubaisi (Abu Dhabi), the former Porsche Junior Klaus Bachler (Austria) and Christian Ried (Germany).

Al Qubaisi commented after the test days saying: “It was a good test for our team, we had rain in the first day and dry conditions in the second day where we were the fastest in class, my pace was very good especially in the wet conditions where I was able to post one of the fastest times.”

“Nurburgring is a very fast flowing track and very technical, there is no room for the smallest mistakes as you can find yourself in the gravel or even worse in the barriers. It was good to be back in the car after a long break since Le Mans.”

This year’s World Endurance Championship calendar consists of eight rounds, including the German Nurburgring circuit instead of Sao Paulo circuit in Brazil. The Championship rounds are: 6 hours of Silverstone on April 12, 6 hours of Spa Francorchamps on May 2, Le Mans 24 Hours on June 13, 6 Hours of Nurburgring on August 30, 6 hours of Circuit of the Americas on September 19th Circuit, 6 hours of Fuji on October 11, 6 hours of Shanghai 6 hours on November 1, wrapping up the championship at Bahrain International Circuit on November 21.
