“Zhuhai promised so much and gave so little. It was so disappointing for everyone at Audi Sport Team Joest. For the mechanics, the engineers and obviously for Tom and I. I was very sad after the race as we had a very good car with great speed and a real contender for a race win.”

“I led early on before getting tapped on the left rear corner by a Ferrari not for the first time this year as I’m sure many of you will remember. That forced us to change the tail section of the car and the team did a great job to get me back in the race after only a couple of minutes.”

“But I then got hit by the Rebellion LM P1 car under braking going into Turn One. That damaged the rear bodywork again but also, and crucially, the wiring loom causing it to short out.”

“We changed the loom and then the battery but unfortunately the battery wouldn’t hold its charge so we were done for. In reality it was just a continuation of what we have had the entire 2011 season. We have been very fast, have been in a position to lead races but haven’t had any of them go our way.”

“To have two consecutive retirements [Petit Le Mans and Zhuhai], something I’ve never had previously in my Audi career, in the last two ILMC races, has been particularly disappointing and very ‘non’ Audi for my time with the team.”

“I have been so thankful over the course of my Audi career to have been in a position to finish a very, very big percentage of events and unfortunately it all turned against us in this one season. Hopefully when it comes to December 31 2011, that period is over and we can start afresh for 2012 . . !”
