Dyson Racing has claimed the ALMS team and drivers LMP1 titles. Chris Dyson, driver and Team Principal, has kindly agreed to answer some questions for Endurance-Info :
Chris, if a third Dyson Racing Lola-Mazda was racing next year in the ALMS would it be necessarily with a partnership of another team or Dyson Racing could run it completely by their own means?
“We are fully prepared to accommodate additional programs utilizing the resources of our organization. We are open to team partnerships but the partners need to be a good fit with our philosophy.”
Do you think there is still more to come with the Dyson Lola Mazdas? Engine, development?
“Absolutely. Lola is working flat out on developing next year’s upgrades, and we expect to make a big step forward with the MZR-R Mazda engine. Advanced Engine Research (AER) are working on a development program. And Dunlop is pushing on with tire research and incorporating all of our needs into the next generation tires.”
What will be the main focus of Dyson Racing next year?
” We are out to repeat our American Le Mans Series championship.”
Could Dyson Racing come to Le Mans next year? If the Lola Mazdas come to Le Mans, do you think that they could be competitive according to the 2012 LMP1 rules?
“At this point our primary focus is the ALMS. If a partner came along who wished to compete at Le Mans, there is still time to put a program together, but we would need to move quickly. I think it’s too early to say if our cars would be competitive at Le Mans next year. The ACO has made an attempt to performance-balance the gasoline and diesel cars; we’ll see at Sebring if it was a big enough step.”
Could Dyson Racing make other WEC races than Sebring?
“Possibly. We need to see the schedule and it depends entirely on our partners’ wishes.”
Will Dyson Racing enter a car (or will be the partner of another team) in the 50th event of the 24 Hours of Daytona?
“At this point, there is no intention to enter the 24 Hours of Daytona.”
We do thank Chris Dyson,
