Ever since our BMW Z4 GT3 arrived in February we were chomping at the bit to get it on the track, and for the past three weeks we have been enjoying a very productive pre-season test programme in the glorious British sunshine!
During this programme the car has been shared by our four Ecurie Ecosse drivers – Olly Bryant, Alasdair McCaig, Joe Twyman and Andrew Smith, as Olly and Alasdair prepare for their attack on the British GT Championship and Joe and Andrew do likewise for the Blancpain Endurance Series. With these championships running on different tyres, we have also been learning about the BMW Z4′s behaviour on both the British-spec Avons and the Michelins used in the Blancpain series.
All four drivers have settled into the Z4 very well, with the more experienced Bryant leading the way as expected at this stage, and the others all within two seconds of the ultimate pace around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. The car has run faultlessly throughout nearly 2000kms of testing, which has allowed the Barwell engineers to accumulate a healthy bank of set-up data in preparation for the Ecurie Ecosse-entered team’s first outing of the year – British GT rounds one and two at Oulton Park on Easter weekend.
“I’m delighted with the way the test programme has gone,” enthuses team boss, Mark Lemmer. “The drivers are now fully dialled in and doing a great job, and we have gathered a huge amount of information on both types of rubber.”
“Testing has been extremely productive, we are using the time on track to acclimatise with the car and tyres,” says Ecurie Ecosse driver, Oliver Bryant. “All four of us are working very well with the Barwell engineers to understand how the car works, and are extremely happy with our overall pace. Now we can’t wait for the first races in April!”
