Yorkshire motorsport giants Ginetta and Pole Position Indoor Karting have joined forces to launch what is set to be the first ever indoor 24 hour go-kart event in the UK; the PPiK Ginetta 24 – the ultimate endurance kart race in aid of BBC’s Children in Need, on 16-17 November 2012. PPiK, with circuits in Leeds and Wetherby, are the North’s leaders in indoor karting and corporate events, whilst Ginetta have developed a range of award-winning road and race cars, making them a formidable player on the world motorsport scene. Thus so, the partnership seemed the obvious choice for the two companies.
Chairman of Ginetta and 2006 Le Mans 24hr GT2 Winner Lawrence Tomlinson said; “The PPiK Ginetta 24 is a perfect opportunity for two Yorkshire-based motorsport companies to raise money for charity by showcasing what we do best, through an accessible public event.”
Up to 16 teams will battle for 24 hours at Yorkshire’s biggest karting venue, competing in brand new race-prepared Sodi karts, personalised in each team’s race livery. With teams being made up of anything from two to 12 drivers, the event promises to be accessible to all levels of karters and motorsport enthusiasts alike. The weekend will include two free practice sessions on the afternoon of Friday 16 November, followed by a unique ‘Pressure Zone’ qualifying session which will see the top driver from each team have just one lap to set their best qualifying time, determining their starting position before the race proper begins at 8pm.
Ben Hyland, Marketing Manager at PPiK said; “PPiK have long-since established themselves as one of the leading karting venues in the UK and we are very proud that we are able to work with another successful local company such as Ginetta in bringing this famous 24 hour endurance concept from Le Mans to Leeds.”
With the goal of raising between £6,000 and £10,000 for Children in Need, PPiK and Ginetta will be donating 10 pence per lap each team completes, as well as incorporating a number of other fun, fundraising activities for drivers and spectators to be involved with throughout the event.
Ginetta factory driver and 2011 Formula KGP champion Michael Simpson said; “I’m delighted that Ginetta is going to be involved with the 24 hour kart race. I cut my teeth in karting and moved from KGP to race in Ginetta’s for 2012, so I’d love to see some keen racing drivers out in force for charity.”
