Leading the 2013 Championship, we caught up with Ryan Dalziel after his and Alex Popow’s win in the team’s 2 car at the Brickyard Grand Prix and ahead of round nine of the Rolex Series at Road America this week:
Qu: Ryan, Team Popow in the #2 Starworks car got off to an eventful start to the season, how were you feeling in the run up to the Brickyard Grand Prix?
Ryan: I was feeling great. Although we had a difficult start to this season it was only a matter of time before we found our feet. We lost some good crew members right before Daytona and so that took some time to regroup from and find even better people, which we now have. The car has been great all season speed wise, we were just missing a couple of little items.
Qu: In the week of the Indy round of the Rolex Series the Starworks team returned to BMW power – how much was that a factor for your second win at the track?
Ryan: It’s no secret we had been a little behind with the previous motor manufacturer and, although leading the championship going into Indy, we felt switching to BMW not only would put us in a better position to win the 2013 championship, but looking towards the future as a team it was a great decision from Starworks Motorsport.
Qu: After the win at Indy, the 2 car is now leading the Championship out right, what are your feelings going to Road America and how are you preparing?
Ryan: We have to keep focused on the job ahead. I’m very confident in our car and team just now. I don’t think any team has higher confidence than us at the moment but we want to keep our feet on the ground for four more races.
Qu: There are four rounds left in the 2013 calendar – which races are you most looking forward too and why?
Ryan: I’m really looking forward to Road America. It’s one of my favorite tracks in the world with great fans on top! This is a track we have been successful at in the past. We have been really competitive all season, but at Indy we executed. We need to execute for four more races and bring Starworks home another championship.
