Team WFR’s British GT team has taken the difficult decision not to compete its Ginetta G55 GT3 car in the forthcoming weekend’s two 1-hour races at Snetterton. The reason for the decision is due to an unavoidable delay in the supply of components to the West Yorkshire based Ginetta factory, which has had a knock-on effect on our preparations for the Snetterton round of the championship. With very limited testing of newly homologated parts and other engineering aspects, we have not had sufficient time to prepare for the challenge of Snetterton.

Team WFR’s Managing Director Myles Schofield said: “We have made the difficult decision not to race our GT3 car at Snetterton. This is all the more upsetting as the car has recently shown glimpses of its podium potential and we were very keen to get out at all three remaining rounds of the championship to show just how good a car it is. Although the factory has pulled out all the stops and the guys in the team have managed to get the car up-together, we have simply run out of time to ensure the minimum level of preparation required for us to attend a race meeting and do the car, the team, the factory and the drivers justice. It’s a real shame but at least we know now that we will be in great shape for Silverstone and Donington to finish the season on a high.

Myles continued: “I am convinced that the Ginetta G55 is a race winning package and part of my decision is based on getting arrangements in place to make sure Team WFR runs a G55 next year with a view to seriously challenge for podiums and the full championship.

“Since Brands Hatch, we have been in constant contact and worked closely with the Ginetta factory and although disappointed, they understand the bigger picture and support our decision not to race this weekend.

“Our team in Ossett have worked relentlessly to make this weekend’s races but ultimately we think our efforts would be better rewarded by racing at the next two rounds at Silverstone and Donington.”

Understandably, drivers Riki Christodoulou and Jody Firth are hugely disappointed with the decision but understand the reasons behind it and are jointly looking forward to a much improved showing at Silverstone and Donington respectively.

We will still be in full attendance at the Norfolk circuit as they work to bring home the GT4 Championship for Ginetta G50 drivers Warren Hughes and Jody Fannin.

The pair could potentially seal the championship with two rounds to spare if they win both races this weekend – but only if rival G50 driver Zoe Wenham has an off weekend.

Schofield finished by saying: “Hopefully our efforts in the GT4 championship will reap the rewards that the drivers and team thoroughly deserve and our intention is to replicate this operation in our GT3 programme at the soonest, possible opportunity.”
