Only five rounds remain in the Pirelli World Challenge Championship and two of them will be completed this weekend at the Utah Motorsport Campus, just outside of Salt Lake City. Bentley Team Absolute driver Adderly Fong (Hong Kong) is aiming to advance further up the Drivers Championship in the season’s home stretch.
Coming off the back of a top-10 result in the most recent round at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Fong is currently ninth in the GT Drivers Championship. The Pirelli World Challenge newcomer heads to yet another unknown circuit in the No. 88 4.0L twin-turbo V8–powered Bentley Continental GT3.
Located in the Utah desert, the 3.048-mile, 14-turn permanent road course is flanked by the Great Salt Lake and the Oquirrh Mountains. It is one of the younger breeds of North American circuits, having just opened in 2006. The track features few elevation changes and blowing sand can make it difficult to find grip.
Saturday’s 6pm ET race and Sunday’s 3:30pm ET race will both be streamed live on www.world-challenge.com.
ADDERLY FONG (HK) #88 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT3
“I haven’t had as much time to look at the Utah Motorsports Campus as in depth as I would like. However from what I see, it looks like a track in an area where weather is consistent and would stay dry. The track itself is high up in altitude so it should suit our turbo-charged Bentley Continental GT3 a little more I believe. The track layout itself looks high speed, so again, that will play toward the downforce of the Bentley.
“I believe I am learning every time with Absolute Racing in every outing we have with the Pirelli World Challenge. Not only is there good competition to benchmark ourselves on, but also the main factor this year has been to better understand the Pirelli tire, as it is so different to what we have previously used in Asia. I’m very proud of our strong showing of pace in the second half of the season and hope to carry and improve this form till the end of the season.”
