The RAM Racing Mercedes AMG GT3 is in the South of France to defend the team’s 24 Hours of Paul Ricard title but, this time, it’s had a change of colours. To celebrate racing at his home event, Monaco resident Roald Goethe (DE) has brought with him the iconic Gulf livery and some of his ROFGO Racing team-mates.
Goethe and regular team-mate Stuart Hall (GB) will be reunited with their World Endurance Championship (WEC) class-winning companion, Jamie Campbell Walter (GB), and European Le Mans Series co-driver, Dan Brown (GB), for the twice-around-the-clock event on the French Riviera.
“It’s so good to be getting our ROFGO Racing team back together for another event,” commented Goethe, who owns the famous ROFGO Collection of Gulf-liveried race cars. “To be able to do so in the Gulf colours, that we have all become so fond of, makes it even more special.”
This will be the first time that the WEC-winning trio has raced together since the 2015 Dubai 24 Hours, however, Goethe and Hall have memories of much more recent success after taking an ELMS podium at Silverstone in April this year.
“I think we have a strong line-up,” Hall commented. “We have four fantastic drivers but, more importantly than that, we are all best mates. To get a podium together at Paul Ricard, one of the most iconic race tracks in the world, would be incredible.”
RAM Racing took the 24 Hours of Paul Ricard race win in 2015 and eventually went on to win the GT3 class title. Although a championship win is out of the question, following mechanical issues at Dubai 24 Hours and Mugello 12 Hours and an incident at Zandvoort 12 Hours, Team Principal Dan Shufflebottom says that a 24-hour race win is as special.
“So much work goes into a 24-hour race that winning one is as important to us as taking a championship title,” he commented. “We’ve had some incredible achievements in RAM Racing’s three-year history including an ELMS championship win, the 24H Series GT3 title win, the race win here and podiums at Dubai 24 Hours and Barcelona 24 Hours, and we’d love to be able to add some more silverware to our cabinet this weekend.”
