A positive 10th position in the LM GT-Am category concluded the second participation of Joel Camathias to the Le Mans 24 Hours. The mythology of the world’s most prestigious endurance race played to the fullest for the team of the KCGM Porsche 911 RSR #78 that the swiss driver shared with Christian Ried and Wolf Henzler.

After hectic practice and qualifying, the team decided to change the chassis of the car, rebuilt on Friday. It proved to be a well-inspired decision, as the car basically led during the first quarter of the race. Unfortunately, at midnight, an engine problem arose that required two long stops for repairing. Once on track again, the Porsche could climb positions to finish in the top ten.

Joel Camathias:

“It has really been a 24 Hours of intense and mixed emotions, as only such a great race can give. After qualifying, we were relatively concerned by the unpredictable behavior of the car. The team decided to have the chassis changed, and a new one was dent from Stuttgart. It took an entire day to the mechanics to rebuild the car, which then worked to perfection. During the first hours of the race, we have always been first or second, and I must say that it was a great sensation to be leading the race during my first stint. Then, we had this engine issue that cost us two hours and any chance of a podium. Once again, the boys have done a terrific job to put the car back in condition.  Eventually, we managed to finish the race, which is always a nice satisfaction, although we cannot avoid some sense of regret.”​​
